Leaves are natural sources of fibre and nutrients for the animals and we will only suggest that concentrate should be a cushion for deficient nutrients in the hay, forages, leaves and grasses served as feed to the rabbits.

It is also a natural source of roughage that helps maintain their digestive tract health by promoting proper bowel movements and preventing digestive issues. 
In other words Rabbit that are given more of concentrates may be susceptible to diarrhea than the rabbit that eats more of roughages that will maintain bowel movement and the proper formation of droppings.


Safe Leaves for Rabbits

Some common edible leaves that we give our rabbits are as follows:

Plantain leaves: 

This leaf has high fibre content and is easy to digest. The rabbit loves it.They are good for your pregnant doe for the milk formation. It also helps to cure wounds faster.It is definitely a great addition to the diet of the rabbit.



Mango leaves:

They have high fibre content and have medicinal properties. They reduce bloating in rabbits which could be like constipation in humans. Bloating is a swollen state caused by retention of fluid or gas in the stomach of the animal. This when not attended to may result in death, but the addition of mango leaves in the diet of the rabbit could reduce this possibility. It also helps to avoid diarrhoea.

Potato leaves: 

This leaf is also a good source of fibre and nutrients for the rabbits, but should be fed in small quantities due to their high oxalate content. Oxalate may play a role in animal metabolism but excess of it in the animal body may make the animal susceptible to kidney stones.

Tridax leaves: 

Tridax procumbens is one of the several common forages that is loved by rabbits, they may be useful in improving the growth rate and feed efficiency of rabbits as it is a good source of fibre and protein.
