Why Overgrown Teeth Could Be Hurting Your Rabbit – And How to Fix It!

Rabbit’s teeth never stop growing and so at some point could be painful for the animal. The inability of the rabbit to easily pick feed, especially feed concentrate, can not be overemphasized. But these issues can be avoided if only you know what to do when these situations occur.

Though this process may be very harmful even with the dedicated equipment to trim these teeth, it requires a level of expertise. In my farm I would always improvise the teeth trimming tool, but if you can afford to purchase the tool please do so you can reduce the risk to the nearest minimum.

Most herbivores like rabbits such as horses and guinea pigs have continuously growing incisors, usually the frontal teeth which most times grow beyond the gums.

How do these teeth become overgrown:

Through the process of rabbit chewing of forages, the grinding effet causes natural wear of the growing teeth of rabbit keeping them in the right length but sometimes it is not enough to keep them from overgrowing especially in domesticated rabbits that chew lesser forages.

Most of them find their teeth stuck in cages, sometimes they find it growing unto the roof of their mouth. Most rabbits with overgrown teeth would drool excessively and mostly have difficulty in chewing and swallowing. In the long run affecting their overall health. So it is very important to keep the length of their teeth in cheek.

So how do we take care of this:

One can always manage the length of his/her rabbit's teeth by trimming it. It requires that one must be gentle and careful at this point. The rabbit will definitely experience no pain if it's done correctly.

Clippers used for dogs can be used to trim rabbit’s teeth but this method may crack or split a tooth because of the force that will be applied, but the hand held rotary tool for trimming excess teeth may level the possibility of pains except if accidentally touches the gum. You can always use the help of a vet.

You can always Prevent it from overgrowing: This is how;

Always check and examine the length of the teeth at all times. And supply your rabbits with fibrous feed after you must have given them feed concentrate (if you give them). grasses and hays are good to cause wear and tear of the teeth to keep them in check.

I have been in the Catfish business for a while and I would like to share some common problems that most beginners and even the the experienced catfish farmers don't take cognizance of during the stocking, feeding and harvesting of the catfish. At first when I started catfish production I got my capital back, but subsequent production began to dwindle until I got to understand that understanding
